Newsletter: July Recap

A message from Christine Hogarth:
Hello Friends,

I hope you are enjoying the summer and taking time to be with family and friends.

July was a busy month as I wrapped up the first leg of my coffee chats and business tours in our riding. A special shoutout to Studio Charm Café, Le Gourmand Bakery, Zen Café Plus, Franklin Horner Community Centre, and Suvari Coffee for letting me host these insightful conversations. It was a pleasure to engage with the wonderful residents of Etobicoke-Lakeshore over a cup of coffee.

Through my coffee chats, I have heard from many of you about your troubles with traffic at the Gardiner. Recently, I was pleased to join Minister of Transportation Prabmeet Sarkaria and Mayor Olivia Chow at City Hall to announce that the Ontario government has stepped in to save drivers and businesses from the frustrating Gardiner Expressway gridlock by investing $73M for 24/7 construction work. This will move up the construction timeline by one year from April 2027 to April 2026.

I am also deeply grateful to the business owners and staff who I met on my Business Meet & Greet. Your thoughts and ideas on improving our community for businesses are invaluable.

Small businesses have a big impact on the wellbeing of our community. As part of my efforts to support local, I was also delighted to welcome numerous businesses to Etobicoke-Lakeshore.

Last month, I also hosted my annual community BBQ. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each of you for joining me with your families and friends. We had an incredible turnout, with close to 500 community members coming together to enjoy the evening.

Looking ahead, my team and I are excited to share that we are working to create a Youth Advisory Council in September, bringing together bright young minds from our community. We’re calling on students from Grades 10 to 12 to apply for this fantastic opportunity to get involved in community building. For more information, contact my office by phone at 416-259-2249 or by email at christine.hogarth@pc.ola.org, subject line: Youth Advisory Council.

As the Olympic Games captivate us all, I am filled with immense pride for our remarkable Etobicoke-Lakeshore athletes representing Canada. A special shoutout for the amazing Summer McIntosh for bringing home two gold medals in swimming! Let’s continue to cheer on all our athletes as they compete. Go Team Canada! Let’s bring home more victories!

Last but not the least, it was my absolute privilege and honour to join the celebrations of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 89th birthday at the Tibetan Canadian Cultural Centre. It was a fantastic day surrounded by friends, the vibrant colours of Tibetan tradition and the opportunity to celebrate Tibetan Heritage Month.

Thank you once again for your continued support and participation in making Etobicoke-Lakeshore a vibrant and thriving community.

Sincerely,

Christine
