Newsletter: May Recap

A message from Christine Hogarth:
Dear Friends,

I’m thrilled to share some fantastic news! There’s a new public school coming to South Etobicoke.

On May 10, I joined the Minister of Education, Stephen Lecce, to announce an investment of $33.4M for the new Etobicoke City Centre Elementary School located at 160 Silverhill Drive in Etobicoke.

This new school will provide another 823 student spaces and 88 licensed childcare spaces, catering to the needs of hardworking families of South Etobicoke.

The Ontario government has invested $135M in five schools for our fast-growing community during my tenure as MPP. I am extremely proud to have advocated and delivered these investments for you.

In addition to these educational investments, I’m excited to announce the opening of a brand-new Teen Room at the Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment. With nearly $21,000 in support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, this space will serve as a dynamic hub for teenage girls in Etobicoke-Lakeshore to connect, learn, and grow together.

On the healthcare front, I was delighted to host Health Minister Sylvia Jones for an evening to discuss our commitments to Etobicoke-Lakeshore residents. Our conversation was informed by the invaluable insights gathered from the ‘Your Priorities for Etobicoke-Lakeshore survey conducted by my constituency office, where better healthcare emerged as your top concern.

Moreover, Ontario marked its fifth Day of Action on Litter in May. It was truly inspiring to join residents for a community clean-up at the Marie Curtis Park. Remember, every small effort contributes to keeping our community clean and beautiful!

Just prior to Christmas 2021, I proudly tabled the legislation that forever recognized Mayas Polish Heritage Month. This year, I joined my Queen’s Park colleagues Minister Kinga Surma and MPP Natalia Kusendova-Bashta to once again celebrate the Polish-Ontarian community’s historic contributions towards building our province.

Looking ahead, I’m eager to spend more time in the community, listening to your concerns firsthand. If you have any suggestions for a café where we can meet and discuss community matters, I’m all ears.

As we celebrate Seniors’ Month in June, let’s seize the opportunity to honour and appreciate the invaluable contributions of our seniors. I invite all residents to join me for a delightful painting party for seniors on June 24th at Franklin Horner Community Centre from 1 pm to 3 pm.

Together, let’s keep up the good work to keep our community active, connected and engaged.

Sincerely,

Christine
