Ontario Upskilling More Nurses to Work in Critical Care
The Ontario government is investing over $4.6 million in the Michener Institute to remove financial barriers for nurses wanting to upskill to work in critical care areas of hospitals. The funding provides free tuition for students and all college and hospital costs, including backfilling their current roles to ensure continuity of care, and allows nurses to train to work in critical care areas of hospitals. |

Local Pharmacies Now A One-Stop Shop For 13 Common Ailments
Starting January 1st, pharmacies can be your one-stop shop to get prescriptions for some of the most common ailments, including pink eye, rashes, insect bites, and urinary tract infections, at no extra cost. This is includes allowing pharmacists to prescribe Paxlovid, an antiviral treatment option used to reduce severe outcomes from COVID-19. All Ontarians are strongly encouraged to keep up to date with vaccinations, which remains the best way for people to stay healthy this flu and respiratory illness season and prevent unnecessary visits to the hospital. |

Ontario Providing Free Naloxone Kits in Workplaces
The Ontario government is launching a first-of-its-kind program to make free naloxone kits (and free training) available at workplaces where there is a risk of staff witnessing or experiencing an opioid overdose. For up to two years, Ontario will provide free nasal spray naloxone kits to businesses at risk of opioid overdoses through the Workplace Naloxone Program and free training needed to equip staff with the tools to respond to an opioid overdose. |

Ontario Keeping Etobicoke-Lakeshore Seniors Healthy, Active, and Connected
The Ontario government is investing in its seniors in Etobicoke-Lakeshore by funding nearly $130,000.00 in seven projects that will help seniors stay safe, fit, active, healthy and socially connected across the community with Seniors Community Grants. Ontario Investing $4 Million to Help Drive World-class Research, Development and Commercialization
The Ontario government is investing $4 million to support greater collaboration between industry and the postsecondary education and research sectors to create well-paying jobs in local communities and help build a resilient economy. The investment will support the Ontario Collaborative Innovation Platform, a new online portal to match industry professionals with equipment, facilities and experts at postsecondary institutions. |

Ontario Creating More Affordable Child Care Spaces Across the Province
The Ontario government is making child care more affordable and accessible for families across the province, creating an additional 53,000 new, affordable licensed child care spaces by December 2026 – bringing our total to 86,000 new spaces since 2019. The new spaces will be allocated to communities across Ontario using a model that incorporates demographics, socio-economic indicators, and existing licensed child care capacity. |

Ontario Flowing More Funding for Municipal Transit
The Ontario government is providing municipalities with up to $505 million to help ensure municipal transit systems can continue to deliver safe and reliable transit services. The funding is being delivered through Phase 4 of the federal-provincial Safe Restart Agreement. Municipalities will be able to use their funding allocations to cover revenue losses, operating expenses, and provincial transit priority projects, including fare and service integration and On-Demand transit. |

Recognizing Recipients of the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards
The Ontario government is recognizing 36 Ontarians in Etobicoke-Lakeshore with a Volunteer Service Award. It is an annual award honouring the exceptional contributions of individuals providing dedicated service to a single organization. The 4,555 recipients from across the province, support a wide range of organizations and causes, including those serving families, children and youth, vulnerable people, hospitals, senior centres and food security programs. |
